DELAMORE LODGE ~ ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY LUXURY NZ ACCOMMODATION
Delamore Lodge encourages sound environmental practices based on a philosophy that aims to promote co-existence between business and the global environment. The entire team at Delamore Lodge work within this philosophy, to achieve high-level targets for environmental conservation, fulfilling the property's obligations as a responsible tourism provider.
The design of lodge embraces the natural environment and it has been constructed in such a way that sympathises with the contour of the land. The walls are curved, to sculpt the structure into the cliff-edge - minimising the visual impact on the land.
The lodge has its own sewage and water treatment plant. The grey water from the sewage system irrigates the surrounding native bush. The lodge also captures and treats its own drinking water from rainwater, in two 10,000 litre tanks, thus ensuring that its existence is as sustainable as possible.
The four luxury suites have been designed with large windows to maximise natural light and reduce the need for, and consumption of, electrical lighting. The lodge faces north and through the framed windows captures all day sun, this is helped by beautiful textured coloured hand-crafted plaster interior and exterior walls which entrap and hold the warmth during the evenings. This minimises the use of electrical heating as much as possible.
The lodge is set amongst protected native bush, plantings are native in orgin with scattering of beautiful flowering plants, olive trees, herb gardens, and a citrus grove attracting beautiful native New Zealand wildlife, such as Tuis and Pukekos.
Food products at Delamore Lodge are sourced locally where possible to minimise food miles. Aaron, the lodge's Chef, also adjusts and designs the menu to fit in seasonally with local production. The lodge specialises in local seafoods.
Throughout winter 2009 a bore is being installed to source additional water and the addition of solar heating panels will further minimise the use of electricity at the lodge.
